Third Annual Greenway Fun Day:
Sunday, April 22, 2007 / 2:00pm to 4:00pmThe Friends of Greenville Greenways (FROGGS) Third Annual Greenway Fun Day was a blast for all participants!!
This year we had three-legged races, a tug-of-war, an environmental poster display by D.H. Conley High School students, a snake display by Howard Vainright from River Park North, tree identification with Vince Bellis, face painting by the ECU Tri-Sigma Sorority, Heather Jacobs from the Pamlico-Tar River Foundation, and the traditional Treasure Hunt. Donors and Volunteers who deserve a big "Thank You" include the above people, as well as the ECU Public Health Student Organization, Barnes and Noble Booksellers, East Coast Music and Video, Tropical Smoothie, Ham's Restaurant, Bladez on Ice, Speedyblue Reprographics, Kinko's, and our own FROGGS volunteers!
2005-2007 Riverwalk Cleanup:
Saturday, February 11, 2006 / 10:00am to 1:00pmDespite the drizzly, cold weather, we had 10 people show up to today's Clean-Up of the Tar River bank and picked up over 20 bags of garbage, plus various large items that didn't fit into garbage bags. We cleaned up the river bank and many nearby fields/woods from Eastern Street up to Beech Street. Luckily, it didn't really rain, so everyone who came worked for a full two hours and we only really got our feet and hands wet.
Some of the more interesting items we found were
There is much more to be picked up – we had to quit a bit early because of the cold and wet weather – so we plan to return to the site again, probably in April in conjunction with the Spring Clean Up.
- a cement-filled rubber tire that had been used as the base of a volleyball net which we pulled out of the river with one of our cars and a rope (!) and deposited at the end of Elm Street to be picked up by the City;
- an old, rusty computer that looked like a left-over from hurricane Floyd;
- a very large, pink Victoria's Secret bag (no underwear included); and
- a huge stereo system.
We all had a great time and urge other Greenville citizens and ECU students to join us in future.
Froggs Fun Day: FROGGS (Friends of Greenville Greenways) Greenway Treasure Hunts took place on Sunday, April 17, 2005, Sunday, April 23, 2006, and Sunday, April 22, 2007
2:00-4:00 pm on the Green Mill Run Greenway between 5th Street and Forest Hill Dr. (In 2007, we changed the name of this event to the "Greenway Fun Day" and moved it to the Elm St. Greenway because it was expanded to include more activities than just a treasure hunt).
Greenville Spring Clean-up: Took place on Saturday, April 23, 2006 and Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 11:00 am at Elm Street Park to help us clean up the Greenway between Elm St. and College Hill, as well as 10th St. north and east of Greenville Blvd.
